  • Aquatics.Jonah Schreiner..Jonah Shreiner, age 17, was doing his homework one evening after school when he realized that the house was unusually quiet and his 18-month old sister was nowhere to be found. He noticed the dog door leading to the pool area was open, and he ran outside to find his little sister floating face down in the pool. The training he received just months before to become a lifeguard kicked in. He pulled the toddler from the water and performed CPR for an agonizing 4 minutes before she regained consciousness. Jonah's sister is alive today because of his lifeguard training and quick actions.

  • ASSIGNMENT DETAILS: For next week's news feature, I'm going to need a couple different photos. I'm writing about the (lack of) planning for schools in the impending ABLA redevelopment. I'll need a shot of a shuttered school at the corner of Throop and Taylor called Riis School. Also, a photo of a parent named Adourthus McDowell standing inside or in front of nearby Smyth School. (Adourthus is only reachable by cell phone, and he hasn't set up his voice mail. So you either reach him or you don't. I had to keep calling for a couple days before he finally answered. If you all can't manage to catch up with him, the story will certainly survive. I'd like to get the shot, though, if it's possible.) The third photo I'll need is of St. Ignatius veep John Chandler, perhaps standing in front of the school's impressive and preppy facade. Whatever you all think best..DATE (Leave blank if it's to be set up by the photographer):.WHERE: Riis School at Throop and Taylor; Smyth School (Adourthus McDowell) at Blue Island and 13th; St. Ignatius (John Chandler) at Roosevelt and Blue Island..CONTACT: Adourthus McDowell 312-203-9413.John Chandler 312-421-5900.PHONE:.NUMBER OF PHOTOS NEEDED: 3.DUE BY: Tues., Feb. 24.ASSIGNED_BY: Lydia...MISC INFO: Adourthus McDowell in Smyth School with the principal Mrs. Ora Elder in the background.KEYWORDS:.PHOTO CREDIT: Josh Hawkins.DIGITAL NUMBER: 204547.FILE NAME:ÊFeb24_04/cj/school2
